PLANT. GROW. SHARE.
Did you know you could donate fresh produce to ICA Food Shelf? Not many people do!
But it’s true. We are in need of fresh produce for our clients.
You Can Fight Hunger In Our Community
Plant a Row & Watch it Grow this Summer
This planting season you and your garden can help fight hunger when you plant an extra row of produce to donate to ICA Food Shelf. By donating garden-grown produce, you are contributing to the health of our community by providing nutritious food for people in need. By sharing part of your garden harvest with ICA you win too, by ensuring that none of your gardening efforts go to waste. Here's how to get started.
Plan: Check out what types of fresh produce ICA would most like to receive. These include: sweet peppers, broccoli, cauliflower, potatoes, onions, melons, winter squash, root vegetables (beets, parsnips, turnips, carrots, and radishes), celery, eggplant, peas, green beans and summer squash.
Plant: Buy seeds or seedlings at your local garden supply store. Then, start planting!
Give: When it’s time to harvest, share some of what you’ve grown. Our local neighbors in need will appreciate receiving fresh, high quality produce at the peak of ripeness and nutritional value.
Drop off Your Garden Produce: Participating residents can drop off food from their gardens throughout the summer and into the fall at ICA Food Shelf’s K-Tel location located at 11588 K-Tel Drive.
Share your experience: Take photos of your garden progress and any stories you’d like to share on ICA’s Facebook and Twitter pages.
Goal: ICA’s goal is to collect 7,500 pounds of fresh produce this season!

Other ideas on how you can help
>>Plant a Garden for ICA
When you plan your garden, ICA is asking you to plant a little extra to donate to your local food shelf. You don’t need to have a big garden to donate; any amount is helpful and needed. So if you find yourself with extra produce throughout the year, please consider donating to your local food pantry.
(Try planting some of our client's favorite produce: peppers, tomatoes, onions, potatoes, lettuces, kale, radishes, carrots, cucumbers, winter and summer squash, strawberries, beets, green beans, peas, broccoli, cauliflower, celery)

>> Donate a portion of your CSA Share to ICA
CSA Stands for Community Supported Agriculture. CSA allows city residents to have direct access to high quality, fresh produce grown locally by regional farmers. When you become a member of a CSA, you're purchasing a “share” of vegetables from a regional farmer. Local CSA shares will take donations for local food shelves. Contact your local CSA share and pay it forward!
