About ICA
Intercongregation Communities Association (ICA), a non-profit corporation, was founded in 1971 in a home in Hopkins offering food and clothing. It is now serving families in need of support in the communities of Minnetonka, Hopkins, Excelsior, Deephaven, Shorewood, Greenwood and Woodland Minnesota and is governed by 33 congregations. Services have evolved over the years to include food, financial assistance for shelter and transportation, transportation to essential services, and where appropriate, referral to other helping agencies.
ICA Services
Our clients are your neighbors who find themselves struggling to make ends meet. Most of our clients work, but do not make enough money to cover the basic needs of their families. Some are able to achieve financial stability rather quickly, while others require ongoing assistance and support.
Food
Normally, a food order is placed via telephone and is available for pickup the next business day. Our intent is to provide one week of groceries for the family, so the amount of food is based on the number of people in the client's family. In addition, if someone is totally out of food, we do have emergency food packs set aside that they can come in and get immediately.
Financial Assistance
Financial assistance for basic needs, such as housing and utilities.
Transportation Assistance
This includes giving rides to people for doctors' appointments. We ask that rides be scheduled 5 - 7 working days in advance. Under some circumstances food delivery can be arranged. ICA also provides special holiday assistance as well as referrals to other service providers.
