About ICA
ICA has been in existence for 38 years. Two couples were aware of the mounting need in our area, so they started distributing food and clothing from a house in downtown Hopkins. A group of congregations saw their work and met to organize the assistance effort. The actual establishment of ICA came after a workshop session at the Hopkins House in the fall of 1970. Seed money was garnered from each of the member congregations when each agreed to donate a portion of their budget, and a special grant was given from Faith Presbyterian. ICA was incorporated on December 15, 1971. A coalition of churches from Minnetonka and Hopkins kept ICA open to help their neighbors. In 1971, the five congregations involved were Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Episcopal Parish of St. David, Mizpah United Church of Christ, Faith Presbyterian, and All Saints Lutheran.

 

Over the years, additional congregations have joined as partners, and now we have 36 partner congregations.

 

Today ICA is also supported by over 100 business partners and is also supported by civic organizations, schools and fraternal organizations. Our citizens and communities have embraced ICA’s mission and support has been evident during our entire 38 years of serving our neighbors in need.

ICA Services
Our clients are your neighbors who find themselves struggling to make ends meet.  Most of our clients work, but do not make enough money to cover the basic needs of their families.  Some are able to achieve financial stability rather quickly, while others require ongoing assistance and support.

Food Distribution Program - Most food orders will be filled within one week’s time.  Pickup may be scheduled depending on appointment availability.  If the need is urgent, the client may come to ICA or  ResourceWest for an emergency bag.

 

Walk-ins – Clients who come to ICA without an appointment will be given an ICA emergency bag of food and a future appointment will be set up. 

 

Emergency Financial Assistance Program – Assistance for financial aid such as rent, mortgage, and utilities.  After necessary application is submitted, an appointment will be scheduled.
