22-Nov-12 'Walk for Hunger' draws record crowd, raises $306K

More than 3,000 community activists laced up their shoes at the Mall of America (MOA) Thursday morning and walked more than three miles to feed Minnesota's hungry.


The record number of participants raised more than $306,000 in the fifth annual Walk to End Hunger, presented by Greater Twin Cities United Way and the Mosaic Company.

The mayors of Shorewood, Excelsior and Tonka Bay had just three minutes to race around the Shorewood Cub Foods store and load up their shopping carts on Thursday.


Their haul totaled more than $4,700.

ICA has launched its newest tactic to reach more people in need - a mobile food truck. The truck is serving members of the senior community at Dow Towers in Hopkins and Hopkins Village Apartments

In November 2011, ICA Food Shelf, which for 40 years has been assisting needy families in the West Metro, found the money to purchase a refrigerated truck that could deliver groceries to low income seniors. St. Luke Presbyterian Church in Wayzata and corporate partners Park Nicollet and Allianz provide the money needed to purchase groceries, load the truck and do the deliveries.



 

16-Nov-11 Minnetonka Ortho Donates to Food Shelf


Beautiful Smiles Orthodontics in Minnetonka collected 675 pounds of candy to support troops overseas and the ICA Food Shelf in Minnetonka.



The office held a candy exchange where it collected Halloween candy from patients and students from the International School of Minnesota and Immaculate Heart of Mary School.



Beautiful Smiles donated the collected candy to overseas troops with help from the Minnesotans' Military Appreciation Fund and will donate $1 to ICA for each pound of candy that was collected. Link
