Reduce Food Waste
Did you know that an estimated 30% of food is wasted in America? (ReFED, 2024 and USDA, 2025). That’s 70 million total tons of food gone to waste in 2024. Grocery prices are getting higher, which means cost of wasting is high too. To participate in Hunger Action Month, find more ways to reduce food waste in your home. Review these resources during the month of September to take action against hunger.

At ICA, we partner with multiple local grocery stores to rescue deli items, produce, and fresh goods to stop food waste. These items go on the shopping floor the same day it’s rescued from the grocery store by our volunteers. This provides more choice and nutritious options for ICA clients, as well as reducing food waste in our community!
