More Than Just Philanthropy: How Tonkadale Enriches Lives

Tonkadale Greenhouse has been serving generations of gardeners and local families in the Hopkins and Minnetonka area since 1947.  Their mission is simple: to enrich lives by creating plant inspired experiences as they connect everyone to beautiful spaces.

Beyond its reputation as a premier garden center, Tonkadale is deeply committed to supporting the community it serves. For years, Tonkadale Greenhouse has supported ICA during times of crisis and increased community need. From starting a donation jar at the checkout to kickstarting multiple community gardens that donate thousands of pounds of produce to ICA, the entire team believes in ICA’s mission.

This June, Bill Maruska, former owner of Tonkadale and grandfather to current owner Jessie Jacobson, made a $100,000 donation to ICA. In partnership with Tonkadale Greenhouse, Jessie Jacobson and Tonkadale have contributed an additional $10,000 in support of this effort. “Together, this gift reflects a multigenerational commitment to giving back, supporting neighbors in need, and strengthening the community that has supported Tonkadale for more than seven decades,” Jessie says.

Reflecting on Tonkadale's philanthropic values, Jacobson said: “Tonkadale is dedicated to supporting local programs and fundraising efforts that enrich the lives of children and families in our community. We give 1% of revenue to organizations supporting equity and inclusion, the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, education and adaptive learning, food security, animal rescue, and programs that support children and families in our community.”

Maruska and Jacobson's gift reflects Tonkadale's longstanding commitment to community impact. For decades, their generosity and dedication have helped strengthen the Hopkins and Minnetonka communities and support neighbors in need.
