The Importance of Connection in Donor Relationships: The Meyers
Carol and Curt Meyer first connected with ICA in 2015, after finding themselves with an abundance of tomatoes from their garden. Wanting to ensure the produce would be put to good use, they searched for a local organization that could share it with neighbors in need. Close to home, ICA aligned with their desire to give back directly to their community. The Meyers brought their tomatoes to the K-Tel Drive location, and as Curt shared, “We’ve been donating vegetables ever since.”
One early experience cemented their long-term commitment to ICA. When the Meyers called ICA and learned the K-Tel Drive location was closed, an employee at the St. David’s location offered to accept the donation just before closing on a Friday. Curt recalls, “We got there and talked for a few minutes, and she was impressed with the number of tomatoes and was incredibly pleased to get them. A few weeks later, we got a card in the mail thanking us for the donation.” The employee had remembered Curt’s name, tracked down the Meyers’ address, and sent a handwritten note of thanks: an act that left a lasting impression.
They say they’re proud to be an ICA donor:
“We are fortunate that we have enough to eat and are grateful that there are organizations like ICA that help those less fortunate.”
With garden donations and financial contributions, clients have access to fresh food and the ability to choose what items best fits their family’s lifestyle.
The Meyers continue to show their dedication to ICA’s mission with both financial gifts and garden donations, even after 10 years of support. Building meaningful relationships with donors like Carol and Curt is essential to understanding our process of how ICA can support our neighbors in the best way possible.
